Conference Call with Senator Shrrod Brown (D-OH)

On Tuesday, March 27th at 3:30 p.m. EDT, please join Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) for a conference call on the bipartisan surface transportation bill.

The bipartisan bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21), passed the Senate overwhelmingly, by a vote of 74 to 22, on March 14, and would reauthorize the nation’s surface transportation programs for two years. This bill would rebuild America’s roads and bridges, modernize our transit systems, and create or save almost three million good-paying jobs.

If the House does not pass this bill the current transportation authorization is set to expire on March 31st.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney received the endorsement of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) at their national meeting which is being held in Arizona. During his address Governor Romney said: "One of the first things I will do, actually on day one, is I will end the government's favoritism towards unions and contracting on federal projects. I will fight to repeal Davis-Bacon...and I will fight for right-to-work laws." «read more

Building Construction Trade Unions Get Major Victory in Virginia

Virginia fails to thwart use of union labor on Dulles project

Virginia isn't a state which has been particularly kind to union construction or organized labor on a whole, but on Tuesday in a major victory for America’s Building Trades Unions, the state Senate on Tuesday struck down an measure that would have prevented officials building the Dulles Metro rail project from signing onto a labor agreement that favors the use of union labor on the $6 billion project. The vote was 19-20, with one republican abstaining and was particularly surprising because the House already passed a bill that promised to withhold $150 million in state funding for phase two of the rail project if officials insisted on using union labor. «read more
